Punjab and Haryana High Court Issues Notice on Haryana ADA Recruitment Syllabus Change
Share:

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Haryana Government, Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), and other authorities regarding a petition challenging the recent change in the Haryana Assistant District Attorney (ADA) recruitment syllabus.

Petition Challenges Shift from Law to General Knowledge Syllabus

The new screening test syllabus excludes law subjects and instead includes Current Events, History, Geography, Indian Culture, Polity, Economy, Mental Ability, Reasoning, Numeracy, Data Interpretation, and Haryana General Knowledge.

A law graduate petitioner argued that this change is arbitrary, lacks a rational basis, and was made without proper consultation between the Haryana Government and HPSC, violating recruitment rules and Article 320 of the Constitution.

Concerns Over Fairness to Practicing Advocates

The petitioner contended that the new pattern unfairly disadvantages practicing advocates with strong legal knowledge but limited general knowledge, preventing them from competing fairly in the recruitment process. Advocates Ajit Singh Lamba and Vivek Sheoran appeared for the petitioner. The matter is listed as Lakhan Singh v. State of Haryana & Ors. and is currently pending before the High Court.
