MP High Court Judge Cycles To Court Following PM Modi’s Appeal To Save Fuel

Justice Dwarka Dhish Bansal of the Madhya Pradesh High Court was recently seen cycling to court after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption amid the ongoing global energy concerns and rising fuel-related challenges. According to reports, Justice Bansal decided to use a bicycle for commuting short distances after listening to the Prime Minister’s appeal regarding fuel conservation. Justice Bansal stated that his objective was to spread awareness among the public about using bicycles for short-distance travel whenever possible. He emphasized that if people start using cycles even for distances of one or two kilometres, it can significantly contribute toward fuel conservation, environmental protection, and better health.

Speaking in the video, Justice Bansal said:

“Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has appealed to save fuel among other things. Keeping it in mind, I felt I should cycle to the High Court and give a message to the common man to use a cycle to commute whenever possible for shorter distances of 1-2 kms.”

The judge also highlighted that cycling is not difficult and should not be viewed as something unusual merely because a person holds a constitutional office. He remarked that judges are not “special” and should also participate in initiatives that promote healthier and sustainable lifestyles.

Justice Bansal further revealed that he occasionally cycles around Jabalpur city along with Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva. According to him, cycling not only helps reduce fuel consumption but also promotes physical fitness and environmental consciousness.

He reportedly stated:

“I keep cycling with Chief Justice Sachdeva Ji sometimes around the city of Jabalpur. I don't think it's much work to cycle. Just because we are High Court judges doesn't mean we are special.”

Justice Bansal also nostalgically recalled a time when bicycles were the primary mode of transportation for a large section of society. He observed that modern lifestyles and increasing dependence on motor vehicles have reduced the use of cycles despite their many benefits.

The judge acknowledged that people often avoid cycling because of weather conditions, especially heat, but maintained that citizens should still make efforts to adopt environmentally friendly transportation methods whenever feasible.

“माननीय प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने अन्य बातों के साथ ईंधन बचाने की अपील की है। इसे ध्यान में रखते हुए मुझे लगा कि मुझे हाई कोर्ट साइकिल से जाना चाहिए और आम लोगों को यह संदेश देना चाहिए कि वे 1-2 किलोमीटर जैसी छोटी दूरी के लिए जहां संभव हो, साइकिल का उपयोग करें।”

जज ने यह भी कहा कि साइकिल चलाना कोई कठिन काम नहीं है और केवल इसलिए इसे असामान्य नहीं माना जाना चाहिए क्योंकि कोई व्यक्ति संवैधानिक पद पर है। उन्होंने कहा कि जज “विशेष” नहीं होते और उन्हें भी स्वस्थ एवं टिकाऊ जीवनशैली को बढ़ावा देने वाली पहलों में भाग लेना चाहिए।
