Advocate M. Balaji Appointed Additional Judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court
Share:

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Advocate M. Balaji (Balaji Medamalli) as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The appointment was approved by the President of India after consultation with the Chief Justice of India in accordance with the constitutional procedure for judicial appointments.

The development was publicly announced by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, who confirmed that Balaji has been appointed for a period of two years as an Additional Judge, effective from the date he assumes charge of office.

Prior to the government notification, the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on January 28, 2026 approved the proposal for Balaji’s elevation as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Collegium recommendation is a mandatory step before formal appointment by the Union Government.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court currently has 32 judges against a sanctioned strength of 37, and the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to fill vacancies in the higher judiciary.

Advocate Balaji has been practising at the Bar and his elevation follows the established process of appointing experienced advocates to High Courts based on Collegium recommendation and Presidential approval.
