WEST BENGAL JUDICIAL SERVICES PRELIMINARY & MAINS EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

Age Limit:-

General category: 23-  35 years.
SC/ST/BC          : Not above 40 years.
BC ( Non-Creamy layer) : Not more than 38 years.
PWD(40% and above disability) : Not more than 45 years.
Govt. employees for at least two years : not more than 37 years.

  • The SC/ST/BC candidates of the other states shall be treated as general
    candidates

The standard of paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate in law of a recognised university.

A deduction of 10% of the full marks of the instant paper will be made from the total marks secured by a candidate who discloses his/her identity by writing his/her name or roll no. or any identifying marks anywhere inside the answer book other than the space provided in the answer scripts, if any.

CHANCE LIMIT:

1. SC/ST/BC (Non-Creamy Layer) of West Bengal:  Not More than five times.
2. Candidates not belonging to the above-mentioned Category: Not more than three times.

NOTE: 
1.  The Claim of a candidate for relaxation of age as a Govt. employee should be proved by
a certificate from the appointing authority showing the period of his/her continuous
service under Govt. and the same should be produced on demand.
2. Age as recorded in Madhyamik or equivalent certificate will only be accepted.
3. Persons suffering from blindness or cerebral palsy have been exempted from the
purview of reservation as contemplated under sec. 33 of the persons with
disabilities (Equal opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act.
1995.
4. Persons with disabilities are advised to bring a certificate from the competent
authority in this regard and produce the same in the examination hall on demand
for verification.
5. Candidates suffering from Low Vision / candidates with locomotor Disability with writing
extremely will be allowed the help of a scribe, if required. The Commission however will
not provide the Scribe for such candidates. Scribe have to be arranged by the
Candidates themselves.
6. Candidates suffering from low vision, candidates with locomotor Disability will be allowed
compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour.

MAINS EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

  •  The final examination will consist of eight compulsory papers and three papers on
    optional subjects to be chosen by the candidates from the list of Optional Subjects.
  • Each compulsory and optional paper will carry 100 marks and will be of 3 hrs. duration.
  • The Standard of examination in the Law papers (Compulsory and optional) will be that of the LLB Degree of the Calcutta University.
  • All answers must be written either in English or in Bengali (unless otherwise directed in the question papers) except in the language papers.
  • In all the answer papers of the Final Examination Due credit will be given to the proper economy of the words combined with clarity and effectiveness of expression and originality of the approach.
  • Debarment for 3 (three) years from appearing in all the examinations conducted by the PSC, WB, in addition to the cancellation of candidature of the examination in case of disclosure of identity by the candidate.
  • Debarment for 3 (three) years from appearing in all the examinations conducted

    in case of disclosure of identity by the candidate.
