Kerala SERVICES PRELIMINARY & MAINS EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

Eligibility /Qualification: Regular Vacancies

A. DIRECT RECRUITMENT:

A candidate for appointment as Munsif – Magistrate by direct recruitment shall satisfy the
following general conditions,

1. Shall be a Citizen of India.
2. Shall be a holder of a degree in Law recognised by the Bar Council Of India for the
purpose of enrolment as an Advocate.

3. Age Limit:

  •  General category : upto 35 years.
     SC/ST                 : upto 40 years.
     OBC                    : upto 38 years

4. Shall be of good character.
5. Shall be of sound health having no bodily infirmities, which renders him/her unfit for
appointment.

B. RECRUITMENT BY TRANSFER:

1. He/She is a holder of Degree in Law recognised by the Bar Council of India for the
purpose of enrollment as an Advocate and is an approved probationer in any one or more
of the feeder categories.
2. Age Limit:  Must not be above 54 years of age.
3. A person who is otherwise qualified for appointment by transfer but is not holding any of
the posts enumerated below at the time of his application for appointment by transfer,
shall be eligible for appointment if he has held any one or more of such posts at any time
for the prescribed number of years and is holding a post in a higher scale of pay in any of
the offices from which the appointment is to be made.

  • The rules relating to the reservation of appointments for candidates belonging to the Schedule Castes, Schedule Tribes and non-creamy layer of the OBCs contained in part II of the Kerala State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1958 (Rules 14 to 17) shall apply to appointment by direct recruitment. Rule 5(3) of the Kerala Judicial Services Rules, 1991 shall apply to the appointment by the transfer.
  • One percent 1% of the vacancies shall be reserved for persons with disabilities having Locomotor disability-moderate provided that the Medical Board Constituted for the assessment certifies that the candidate will be able to perform the duties of Judicial Officer with the aid of Assistive Technologies and the candidate qualified in the Selection in Terms of the Kerala Judicial Service Rules, 1991.

MAINS EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

  •  Total marks: 400 marks
  •  No. of Exams: four (4) exams of 100 marks each
  • Duration: 3 hrs for each paper
  • The number of candidates for the Viva Voce shall not ordinarily exceed three times the
    number of notified vacancies.
