SERVICES PRELIMINARY & MAINS EXAMINATION SYLLABUS

  • 1 Objective type Exam for prelims
  • Duration: 2 hrs.
  • 1 mark for each correct Answer
  • No. of questions: 100
  • 100 marks
Qualifying Marks Pre. :
  • SC/ST : 50 marks
  • Others: 60 marks
Marks Secured in the Preliminary Examination is considered only for Eligibility for the Main written Examination.
Minimum Qualification and Age Limit:

A. Direct Recruitment:   
a. The Candidates must be a holder of a degree in Law by a University established by Law
in India and must have been enrolled as an Advocate as per the Advocates Act. and The
BCI Rules. 
b. Age limit :    

  • SC/ST                  :  38 years . 
  • General              :  35 years.
  • Ex- Servicemen:  Relaxation of three years on the upper age limit.
  • Direct Recruitment to the cadre of civil judges is subject to any order made under Art.16(4) or 16(4A) of the Constitution of India, providing reservation for scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBC.
  • For the direct recruitment to the cadre of Civil Judges 1% (One percent) reservation has been provided for the Orthopedic Disabled Persons (Persons having Disability With one arm (OA)/one leg (OL)/both Legs (BL), subject to the prescribed qualifications.

Recruitment of In Service Candidate:  
a. Must be holder of a Degree in Law granted by the University established by Law in India.
b. Age Limit:  

  •  SC/ST : 43 Years
  •  Others: 40 Years.
  •  

c. All In- Service candidates having required qualification working in the High Court and in
the District Judiciary irrespective of their cadres are eligible to apply for the post of Civil
Judge.
d. Assistant Public Prosecutors-cum- Additional Government Pleaders who are working in
the Department of Prosecutions and Government Litigation are also eligible to apply for
the post of Civil Judge.

PAPER 2:-    LAW PAPER I            [100   MARKS]

1. The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908
2. The Code of Criminal Procedure,1973

4. Principles of Pleading and 
5. The Constitution Of India.

PAPER 3:    LAW PAPER II
1. Framing Of issues and writing of Judgements in Civil cases

NOTE: QUALIFYING MARKS FOR MAINS: 
 

  • General Category: 50 marks
  •  SC/ST                : 40 marks

From among the candidates who are eligible for Viva-Voce as per sub-rule II (1) (e) (ii) of Rule 5 of the Karnataka Judicial Service (Recruitment) Rules, 2004 and Amendment Rules 2011, 2015 and 2016 as far as may be, such number of candidates as is equal to 7 (seven) times the number of vacancies notified, having regard to the number of vacancies in each reserved category, selected in the order of merit, hall be called for Viva – voce Examination.

INTERVIEW – {100 marks}

Personality Test, Academic knowledge, Communication skills etc.
Qualifying marks:

  •  General category-    50 marks
  •  SC/ST               –     40 marks
COMPUTER TEST [ 25 marks]
  • To ascertain the knowledge of computers among candidates.
  •  Marks obtained shall not be aggregated to the total marks obtained in the main written exam or viva-
    voce.
