Sameer Wankhede Files ₹2 Crore Defamation Suit Against Red Chillies, Netflix Over Aryan Khan's 'Bads of Bollywood' Series*
Share:

New Delhi: IRS Officer Sameer Wankhede has moved the Delhi High Court, filing a defamation suit against Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, and others involved in the new Netflix series, "Ba*****ds of Bollywood," directed by Aryan Khan. Wankhede alleges a "false, malicious, and defamatory portrayal" of him in the series, which he contends is a deliberate attempt to malign his reputation.

Key Allegations and Demands:

  • Damages and Donation: Wankhede has sought ₹2 crores in damages, which he has stated will be donated entirely to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for the treatment of cancer patients.
  • Permanent Injunction: The suit seeks a permanent and mandatory injunction to restrain the production house and others from broadcasting the allegedly defamatory content.
  • Malicious Intent: The officer's case argues that the series was "deliberately conceptualised and executed" to malign his reputation in a "colourable and prejudicial manner," especially while the case involving him and Aryan Khan remains pending and sub-judice before the Bombay High Court and the NDPS Special Court.
  • Violation of National Honour Act: A specific objection is raised against a scene where a character allegedly makes an "obscene gesture," specifically "showing a middle finger" after reciting the slogan "Satyamev Jayate." The suit avers that this act constitutes a "grave and sensitive violation" of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, attracting penal consequences.
  • Contravening IT and BNS Acts: The content of the series is also contended to be in contravention of various provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as it allegedly seeks to outrage national sentiment through the use of obscene and offensive material.

Red Chillies Entertainment is owned by actor Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, and the series is the directorial debut of their son, Aryan Khan, who was previously arrested by an NCB team led by Wankhede in the 2021 Cordelia cruise drug case. The Delhi High Court is expected to hear the matter soon.
