Karnataka High Court Issues Notice on Sri Lankan Judge’s Plea Seeking Removal of Defamatory Online Content

The articles reportedly appeared on websites including Colombo Telegraph and Lanka eNews, which have also been made parties to the proceedings.

Why the Petition Was Filed in India

The Sri Lankan judge approached the Karnataka High Court because Google India’s headquarters are located in Bengaluru, giving the court jurisdiction over the search platform’s operations in India.

His legal team also argued that filing a case in Sri Lanka could create ethical complications because he is currently serving as a sitting judge of the Sri Lankan Supreme Court.
