In a major development following the recent escalation between India and Pakistan, both countries have agreed to halt all military operations. This agreement, which came after a series of military confrontations, was confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a special press conference held earlier today.

At 15:35 hours, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted the DGMO of India. The two military leaders reached an understanding that both sides would cease all firing and military actions across land, air, and sea, effective from 17:00 hours Indian Standard Time today.

Misri stated, “Instructions have been issued to both sides to implement this understanding, and the DGMOs are scheduled to speak again on May 12 at 12:00 hours.”

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also confirmed the ceasefire agreement and emphasized India’s firm stance against terrorism. He stated, “India and Pakistan have worked out an understanding regarding the stoppage of firing and military action. India will continue to take a strong and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms.”

A statement from US President Donald Trump earlier today credited the United States for facilitating a mediation process that led to the agreement between the two countries, although the Ministry of External Affairs of India clarified that no third party was involved in the understanding between the two nations.

The military escalation began with ‘Operation Sindoor’ conducted by Indian forces on May 7, which targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan. This was a retaliatory action in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Following India’s military strike, Pakistan escalated its military response by attempting to target Indian military establishments and cities, but these attempts were repelled by Indian forces.

The cessation of hostilities marks a significant development in Indo-Pakistani relations and a potential de-escalation of tensions that had been rapidly rising. This agreement may pave the way for further diplomatic dialogue between the two nations.
