After a prolonged investigation lasting over four years, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case on Saturday, stating that it did not find sufficient evidence to support any claims of foul play in the actor's death.

Closure Report Submitted to Special Court
According to reports by PTI, the CBI submitted its closure report before a special court in Mumbai. The special court is now tasked with deciding whether to accept the report or order a further investigation into the matter.

Rhea Chakraborty's Counsel Responds
Reacting to the news, Rhea Chakraborty’s counsel, senior advocate Satish Maneshinde, expressed his displeasure over the false narratives circulated on social media and electronic media during the course of the investigation. Maneshinde particularly condemned the baseless accusations against his client, Rhea Chakraborty, and the undue media trial she underwent.

Maneshinde said, “The CBI has filed a closure report in connection with the Death of Sushant Singh Rajput after almost 4 and a half years. We are grateful to the CBI for having thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles and closed the case.” He further added that the amount of false media narratives was “totally uncalled for,” and innocent people, including his client, were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities.

He also urged the media to reflect on their actions and emphasized the emotional toll on his client, stating, “Rhea had to undergo untold miseries and was behind bars for 27 days for no fault of hers until Justice Sarang Kotwal of the Bombay High Court released her on bail.” Concluding his statement, Maneshinde said, "Satya Meva Jayate!"

Background of the Case
Sushant Singh Rajput, a popular actor, was found hanging at his home in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, 2020. Initially, the Mumbai Police conducted the investigation, concluding that his death appeared to be a suicide, with no evidence of foul play. The police found no signs of forced entry into his house and suggested that depression could have been a significant factor in his death. Notably, there was no suicide note found at his residence.

FIRs Filed by Actor's Family and Counter-allegations
In the aftermath, Sushant’s father, KK Singh, lodged an FIR with the Patna Police, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and others of abetting his son’s suicide. He also alleged cheating, theft, and wrongful confinement against Chakraborty. In response, Chakraborty filed a counter-FIR, accusing Sushant's sisters of forging a prescription for certain scheduled drugs.

Supreme Court’s Involvement and CBI Probe
With conflicting reports from the Patna Police and Mumbai Police, the Supreme Court intervened on August 19, 2020, and directed the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation into both the cases. After over four years of investigation, the CBI has now filed a closure report in both cases, effectively concluding the investigation into the actor’s death. The filing of the closure report by the CBI has brought an end to the prolonged legal proceedings and intense media scrutiny surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The special court in Mumbai will now decide whether to accept the CBI’s closure report or direct further investigation into the matter.
