Delhi High Court Orders Blocking of ‘Come Sports’ Apps Mimicking Dream11

In a significant order aimed at protecting intellectual property rights in the online gaming industry, the Delhi High Court has directed the blocking of several rogue mobile applications and websites that were allegedly impersonating the popular fantasy sports platform Dream11.

The interim order was passed by Justice Jyoti Singh on February 24, 2026, while hearing a trademark and copyright infringement suit filed by Sporta Technologies Private Limited, the company that operates Dream11.

Allegations of Trademark and Copyright Infringement

According to the suit filed by Sporta Technologies, certain operators were running mobile applications and websites under the names “Come” and “Come Sports”, which closely imitated the branding, trademarks, and overall interface of Dream11.

The plaintiff alleged that these platforms had replicated the look and feel of Dream11’s application, including similar colour schemes, logos, and design elements. This imitation, the company argued, was likely to mislead users into believing that the fake applications were associated with or endorsed by Dream11.

The company contended that such acts amounted to trademark infringement, passing off, and copyright violation, thereby causing damage to its brand reputation and consumer trust.

Court Grants Interim Relief

After examining the submissions, the Delhi High Court granted ex parte interim relief to Dream11’s parent company. The Court restrained the defendants from:

• Using the Dream11 trademark or any deceptively similar marks
• Operating applications or websites that replicate Dream11’s user interface
• Publishing advertisements or promotional material suggesting association with Dream11

The Court also directed internet service providers (ISPs) and domain registrars to block several domains linked to these applications. Reports indicate that around 21 domains connected with the fake apps were ordered to be blocked as part of the interim directions.

Protection of Consumers and Brand Identity

The Court noted that the defendants had reproduced significant aspects of Dream11’s application interface and brand identity, which could mislead users and unfairly benefit from Dream11’s reputation.

Such imitation, the Court observed, undermines consumer confidence and constitutes a clear case of passing off and unlawful exploitation of another company’s goodwill.

Growing Concerns Over Fake Gaming Platforms

The case highlights a growing challenge faced by major digital platforms in India—clone applications and websites that mimic popular services to attract unsuspecting users.

With the rapid growth of fantasy sports and online gaming platforms, several companies have increasingly turned to courts to protect their trademarks, copyrights, and trade dress.

Legal experts note that this order reinforces the judiciary’s willingness to take swift action against digital impersonation and trademark misuse in the online ecosystem.

The Delhi High Court has listed the matter for further hearing in April 2026, during which the defendants may appear and present their response to the allegations.

Until then, the interim injunction and blocking directions issued by the Court will remain in force.

याचिकाकर्ता ने दलील दी कि यह कृत्य ट्रेडमार्क उल्लंघन, पासिंग ऑफ और कॉपीराइट उल्लंघन की श्रेणी में आता है, जिससे कंपनी की प्रतिष्ठा और उपभोक्ता विश्वास को नुकसान पहुँच सकता है।

कोर्ट ने दिया अंतरिम राहत

मामले की सुनवाई के बाद दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट ने Dream11 की मूल कंपनी को एक्स-पार्टी अंतरिम राहत प्रदान की। अदालत ने प्रतिवादियों को निम्न कार्यों से रोक दिया—

• Dream11 के ट्रेडमार्क या उससे मिलते-जुलते किसी भी चिह्न का उपयोग
• Dream11 के ऐप इंटरफेस की नकल करने वाले ऐप या वेबसाइट चलाना
• ऐसे विज्ञापन या प्रचार सामग्री जारी करना जिससे Dream11 से संबंध होने का भ्रम पैदा हो

इसके साथ ही अदालत ने इंटरनेट सेवा प्रदाताओं (ISPs) और डोमेन रजिस्ट्रार को इन ऐप्स से जुड़े कई डोमेन्स को ब्लॉक करने का निर्देश दिया। रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, लगभग 21 डोमेन्स को ब्लॉक करने का आदेश दिया गया।

उपभोक्ताओं और ब्रांड की सुरक्षा

अदालत ने यह भी कहा कि प्रतिवादियों ने Dream11 के ऐप के महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सों और ब्रांड पहचान की नकल की है, जिससे उपभोक्ताओं को भ्रमित किया जा सकता है और Dream11 की प्रतिष्ठा का अनुचित लाभ उठाया जा सकता है।
