The Supreme Court of India today warmly welcomed Justice Stephen Gageler, Chief Justice of the Australian High Court, who attended the Court’s proceedings as a special invitee.

In the morning session, Justice Gageler joined the bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Justice K Vinod Chandran, and Justice NV Anjaria in the capacity of an observer judge.

During the proceedings, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta extended a gracious welcome to Justice Gageler and expressed regret that his visit was too brief to fully explore the cultural and historical richness of India.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi recalled that he had visited the Australian High Court in 2015 when he was the Attorney General of India. The Chief Justice of India added that Mr. Mehta, the current Solicitor General of India, was also present during that visit. At that time, Justice Gageler was serving as the Solicitor General of Australia.

Highlighting the cultural exchange, the CJI mentioned that despite the short duration of his trip, Justice Gageler had already experienced some of Delhi’s famous culinary delights, including the iconic Delhi Chaat.

Justice Gageler’s visit to India is part of his official engagement to participate in the ongoing Delhi Arbitration Weekend, a prominent event fostering international legal dialogue and cooperation.
