Share:

The Supreme Court of India has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 23, which tragically resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, all tourists except one local native. The Court expressed its deep anguish at the "cowardly terrorist attack," which it described as a blatant affront to humanity.

Resolution Passed by Full Court

In a unanimous move, the Full Court of the Supreme Court passed a resolution condemning the attack as "an affront to the values of humanity." The resolution went on to state: “This diabolical act of mindless violence has shaken the conscience of all and is a stark reminder of the brutality and inhumanity that terrorism unleashes."

The Supreme Court expressed its respectful tribute to the innocent lives lost in the attack, emphasizing that their deaths were brutal and premature. The Court also extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, adding, "May the departed souls rest in peace and may those who were injured recover soon. The nation stands with the victims and their families in this hour of indescribable grief."

The Court condemned the attack on tourists who were simply enjoying the natural beauty of Kashmir, which is often referred to as the "Crown Jewel of India." The Supreme Court described the attack as an affront to humanity and the sanctity of life, firmly expressing that such violence cannot be justified.

Solidarity and Tributes from the Judiciary

As a mark of respect for the victims and their families, the Judges, lawyers, and Registry staff of the Supreme Court observed a two-minute silence at 2 PM on the same day. This act of silence was a collective expression of solidarity and a tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack.

Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) Statement

In addition to the Court's resolution, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) also passed a resolution condemning the terrorist attack. The Association expressed its unwavering support for the victims and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The SCAORA said, "It is our earnest prayer that peace, unity, and harmony prevail so that our nation may continue to progress together in strength and brotherhood."

Tributes from the Legal Community

In a powerful show of support, around 300 advocates gathered at the Supreme Court lawn, wearing white ribbons as a symbol of mourning and solidarity with the victims. The advocates came together to condemn the terrorist attack and pay homage to those who lost their lives.

Details of the Attack

The attack in Pahalgam has left the nation in shock. The victims, primarily tourists, were ambushed while they were exploring one of Kashmir's most iconic tourist destinations. The attack, which was carried out by militants, has sparked outrage across the country and has led to widespread calls for justice.

The Path Forward

The Supreme Court's condemnation of the attack has not only underscored the brutality of terrorism but also highlighted the importance of unity and national solidarity in the face of such tragic events. The legal fraternity, along with citizens across the country, has expressed its collective grief and support for the victims and their families.

As investigations into the attack continue, the Supreme Court, along with other national institutions, stands united in its resolve to bring justice to the victims and ensure that such acts of violence are not allowed to undermine the peace and security of the nation.
